Who’s a Good Candidate for Dentures?
When it comes to wearing dentures, it’s important that you first meet with a dentist who can determine if your oral health is in the best shape for these prosthetics. Designed to restore function and aesthetics, full, partial, and implant dentures can give you back the life you’ve been missing. As you navigate the process of replacing your missing teeth, allow our team to explain what it is that makes a person the best possible candidate for dentures.
Effects of Missing Teeth
Missing teeth don’t just hinder your ability to feel confident in your appearance. They make it difficult to enjoy food or even speak to those you love. Attempting to eat a meal with family or converse with friends at a gathering can be impossible. Many times, those without teeth find themselves shying away from these opportunities and instead retreating to their home to avoid embarrassment.
As a result, it can begin to take a toll on your overall health, mind, and emotional behavior. Without treatment, you may begin to notice a serious decline in your well-being.
What Qualifies You for Dentures?
To determine if you are a candidate for dentures, you must first schedule an appointment with a denture dentist in Las Vegas. This will be the first step in learning how you can go about replacing your missing teeth.
During your visit, there will be a full oral examination performed as well as digital images taken of your mouth. These will allow our team to look closely at the condition of your mouth and determine the severity of your tooth loss as well as which type of denture might be right for you. If you’re only missing a few teeth along an arch, a partial denture may be the best fit. However, if you are without an entire row of teeth, we’ll likely recommend either a traditional full or implant denture.
Alternative Tooth-Replacement Options
Based on the findings of our dental team, you can expect that we will recommend one or more of the best options for you to choose from. If a partial or full denture is not something that you prefer, there are two additional tooth-replacement solutions:
- Dental Bridges – If you are missing 1-4 consecutive teeth along a row, a dental bridge can be a worthwhile investment. This uses your healthy abutment teeth as anchors to hold it in place. Dental crowns will be secured over these teeth, while the remaining pontics rest on top of the gums to restore your smile.
- Dental Implants – A longer-lasting option is dental implants. When 4-6 implant posts are placed along the jawbone, a customized denture can be placed atop the posts, creating a stable and durable prosthetic. When cared for properly, these teeth can last 30+ years.
Traditional Dentures
Traditional dentures replace a full arch of missing teeth, whether upper or lower. Held in place with a denture adhesive or suction, a traditional denture returns your ability to eat and speak, as well as returning structure to your face for a younger appearance. Dr. West uses only premier dental materials for a denture that looks natural.
Immediate Dentures
If you require extractions before receiving your denture, there's good news. Dr. West offers immediate dentures, which means we'll provide you with your prosthesis before you leave our office. Because the gum and jaw change after the extractions, it's important that you keep follow-up fittings with Dr. West to ensure that your denture fits properly.
All-on-4 Implant-Supported Dentures
All-on-4 Immediate Dentures give patients the benefit of a beautiful new smile in just one visit. This revolutionary technique provides denture patients a secure option that eliminates slipping and clicking. The All-on-4 procedure involves the placement of four implants just below the gum line. These implants serve as the foundation and your custom denture, which will simply “snap” onto the implant posts for maximum stability.
