In most cases, a dental emergency stems from fairly common causes. One might be a toothache due to an infection, while another involves teeth chipped by a sports injury. That said, some of these urgent care scenarios can get pretty darn strange. There have even been patients who had dental issues dentists couldn’t believe at first. If you’d like to learn a few of these weird incidents, your Las Vegas dentist can oblige. Here, then, are four of the strangest dental emergencies ever to happen.
The Case of the Oral Garden
At one time, a man visited his local practice for help with a nagging toothache and gum pain. You’d think these are standard issues, right? Even the treating dentist thought a root canal could fix things. However, the “root” problem was quite unexpected.
Once the dentist started working, he discovered a plant sprouting around the patient’s tooth! More specifically, it was a tomato seed that had gotten stuck and started growing. The offending fruit, it seems, was pressing on various mouth tissues.
A Sudden Bridge Collapse
Another patient had an issue with the dental bridge for his lower teeth. While it should’ve been held in place by his lower canines, he noticed it was oddly loose. Recognizing the risk, then, he sought help from his emergency dentist.
It was at this dental visit that things turned surreal. When the dentist removed the patient’s bridge, the canines came out too! These teeth weren’t attached to the jawbone anymore, meaning the oral appliance had kept them in place.
Superglue Can’t Fix Everything
One woman had a strange emergency involving her dental crown. Namely, the prosthetic had fallen out, and she decided to try a DIY fix. Unfortunately, her approach just made the problem worse.
You see, the woman had tried using superglue to reattach her crown. The glue not only didn’t work, though, but it also got in her mouth and throat. She thus needed treatment for her “treatment.”
A Drill Needs Firm Hands
Ironically, a few emergencies can happen despite dental treatment. That fact applied to the case of a Swedish woman.
In this emergency, the woman was badly injured when a dental drill came loose during a procedure. The tool then dove into her mouth, traveled down her throat, and lodged in her lung. Thankfully, doctors were able to perform emergency surgery to extract it.
Luckily, emergencies like those above are highly rare. You should thus feel confident enough to see your dentist for urgent dental needs.
