CEREC restores in one visit
CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. Dr. Pamela J. West of Summerlin Center for Aesthetic Dentistry uses this restorative dental service to rebuild teeth damaged by decay, injury, malformation, root canal therapy or multiple fillings. Creating complete or partial crowns (inlays or onlays), CEREC imaging, design software and in-office milling techniques produce lifelike crowns in just about an hour.
Here’s how CEREC works
After an oral exam, x-rays and other imaging to determine if a patient needs a crown, Dr. West removes decay and filling material from the tooth. She uses a small, intraoral camera to picture the prepared tooth and creates a 3-dimensional image or optical impression. From there, Dr. West uses the “impression” to design an individualized crown with the proper fit, size and shape for the patient’s mouth.
The CEREC milling apparatus then uses the doctor’s information and actually carves the crown out of a solid block of dental grade porcelain. This ceramic material is very lifelike and durable, too. The fabrication process takes 20 minutes or so and happens chairside in the treatment room. The patient may watch his or her crown being made. When complete, the doctor polishes the Summerlin CEREC crown, carefully fitting and bonding it into the patient’s mouth.
Summerlin CEREC crowns look and fit great
Unlike gold or porcelain and metal alloy crowns, Summerlin same day crowns fit perfectly right out the milling machine. Little or no bite adjustment is necessary, and the color matches adjacent teeth, making the crown virtually indistinguishable from its natural neighbors. Also, patients appreciate not having to wear temporary caps or waiting a week or more for their restorations to come back from an outside dental lab.
Dr. West, her staff and patients, too, praise the durability of Summerlin CEREC crowns. With daily flossing and twice daily brushing, plus regular exams and cleanings, these amazing restorations last for years, completing smiles beautifully.
